For me, no meal at home would be complete without great entertainment. I spend ages scrolling through Netflix trying to find the perfect match for my five-minute sandwich. But it always makes it tastier. That’s why when I heard of Taste Film it was a must on the list. In this post I go through my experience of Taste film, how I got tickets, the upsides and downsides and some of their future films.
My experience of Taste Film London:
As soon as I found out about the experience, I dashed to the website to see the films on offer. Straight away I saw a golden opportunity, a film I’ve always wanted to taste: Ratatouille. Filled with excitement I purchased my ticket.
On the day of the event, I arrived at the location (Parlour) a little early and decided to grab a drink while I waited for the cinema room to be prepared. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and there was even a cloakroom where I could store my belongings. When the cinema room was ready, I made my way to my chosen seat and was delighted to find a bunch of cool things on the table in front of me. Including a beautifully designed menu inspired by the film, some delicious popcorn to satisfy my hunger, a description of the event, and even a lamp with an adjustable brightness setting to help me see my table and take perfect photos for the ‘gram.
The food:
Oh, the food was definitely the best part of the experience! It was absolutely delicious. To start off, I was serve a creative cocktail that mimicked the ingredients used by Remy at the beginning of the film. It really made me feel like I was part of the scene.
The film itself was divided into four courses, and each course was served at specific timings to complement the dishes shown in the film. I never felt like the food was taking too long to come out or that I was missing an important scene. Whenever I anticipated a scene coming up, the waiters and waitresses were already bringing out the next course. All well-timed and perfectly coordinated!
One thing that really stood out about the food served by Taste Film was the plating. The plates are served so authentically, and the dishes used really mimick how food is presented in the movie. For example, for my leek and potato soup, I was given the exact same pot and spoon to eat it with as shown in the film. How creative! I also loved how they used edible decor and interactive toppings to add more dimensions to the experience.
How I got tickets for Tastefilm London:
One thing you’ve got to watch out for with Taste Film being in London is that the tickets sell out super-fast! There’s always someone else out there who wants that seat just as much as you do. Each session only has around 28 seats, so you’ve got to be quick if you want to secure your spot. Here’s how I managed to get my hands on some tickets:
First off, I checked out the Taste Film website to see which film I wanted to see. The next step was to sign up for their email notifications. If you don’t want to give out your email, your best bet is to follow their Instagram and keep an eye out for updates. They usually send out an email about a month before the experience with the ticket release date and time. Tickets usually release the following day from 9am onwards.
Make sure you check out the menu beforehand to see what’s on offer! Once you’ve made up your mind, follow the ticket link. The slots won’t be open for sale yet. But you can decide beforehand when you’re free to go and whether you’d prefer an evening or afternoon slot. Finally, set your alarms and get ready to purchase your ticket as soon as they become available. It’s a super popular experience, so you’ve got to act quick if you want to be part of it!
Things I loved:
- First, not only do you get to watch a film, but you also get a gourmet meal from a top chef!
- Second, the price is great. Considering you get four courses, two drinks, and a film for just £75, it’s a steal.
- Third, the staff were amazing – they provided great service and even had a chat with us during the break.
- Lastly, I appreciated that they provided closed captions for some films, making the experience more accessible.
Things I would improve:
- As someone who is quite short (I’m 5’1), I found it a bit difficult to see the screen since my seat was towards the back and there were a lot of heads in front of me. I managed to find a pillow to sit on to fix this, but just a heads up for other shorties out there.
- Additionally, I’m not sure if this experience is suitable for kids. The table behind me was full of kids and I noticed they didn’t really touch the food. But hey, at their age, I probably would’ve preferred pizza and chips with my film too!
If I have done enough to convince you of this wonderful experience check out their next films and sign up to their mailing list:
